Batch pasteurization is commonly used in dairy processing, beverage production, and pharmaceutical applications. The process involves heating the product in a large, insulated tank at a controlled temperature for a set period, followed by rapid cooling.

Design & Components of a Batch Pasteurizer

Batch pasteurizers are designed to handle liquid or semi-solid products in a hygienic and efficient manner. The main components include:

  1. Stainless Steel Pasteurization Tank: The tanks are double walled, insulated, and jacketed to ensure even heat distribution. It is made of food-grade stainless steel (SS 304) to prevent contamination. It can range in capacity from 300 liters to several thousand liters, depending on production needs.
  2. Heating System: It uses steam, gas, hot water, firewood, or electric heating elements to raise the temperature. Uniform heating with agitation and circulation systems are also provided in the system.
  3. Temperature: National Refrigerator Udhyog provides the tank which is equipped with digital temperature sensors to monitor the current temperature of the fluid.
  4. Agitator: Agitator is provided in the batch pasteurizer for the uniformity in heating.
